Deepak Chopra was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post on January 18, 2011, for a five-year term effective February 1, 2011.
Mr. Chopra has more than 15 years of global experience as a postal industry executive.
Most recently, Mr. Chopra was President and Chief Executive Officer of Pitney Bowes Canada and Latin America. Pitney Bowes is a $6-billion global mailing and communication technology company with more than two million customers worldwide.
He previously held a number of increasingly senior executive roles with the company, including President of its new Asia Pacific and Middle East region. Earlier, he was responsible for finance and operations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Mr. Chopra has successfully generated growth and streamlined operations while balancing the interests of competing stakeholders operating in complex and regulated environments. He has worked extensively with postal administrations around the world to increase the relevance of postal assets in the digital economy.
He has also addressed international conferences on a range of topics, such as the future of postal services, fostering diversity of thought among corporate leaders and creating a highly engaged workforce.
Mr. Chopra was named a Fellow of the Certified General Accountants of Canada and holds a postgraduate diploma in business management and a graduate degree in commerce. He is married and has two children.
The President and CEO sits on the Board of Directors of Canada Post Corporation, and chairs the Strategy and Priorities Meeting, which manages the vision, strategies and priorities for Canada Post and The Canada Post Group of Companies, as well as the public policy framework targets set by the Government of Canada.
