Greening our buildings

Greener buildings don’t just benefit the environment. They also benefit our employees and our customers by providing safer and healthier workplaces. We are committed to registering all major new Canada Post-owned building projects for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) certification.

Our LEED buildings to date

As of December 2010, we had registered 14 new building projects across the country for LEED certification. Two of those buildings—the Woodstock Letter Carrier Depot and Hamilton West Letter Carrier Depot—received LEED silver certification from the Canada Green Building Council in January 2011.

The Winnipeg Mail Processing Plant, which opened on June 4, 2010, is our first mail-processing plant to be registered for LEED certification. This new plant—the flagship facility of our multi-year, $2B investment into the modernization of operations nationally—represents a giant leap into our future. Watch a video to learn more.

What is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)?

The LEED Green Building Rating System is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The system gives building owners and managers the tools to ensure an immediate and measurable beneficial effect on their buildings’ environmental performance.
